The Arts of "Agak-agak Cukup"

I started learn to bake when I was in my Standard Six, and I started learn to cook when I was in Form 1 or Form 2, I couldn't remember much (Quite late for me tho because kaklang always bragged dia darjah lima dah pandai masak gulai asam. pfffft). Well, personally, I fancy baking more rather than cook dishes but of course I have to learn the latter too because, well, a girl gotta be a girl, at least in the future. LOL. My mother is my first cooking teacher eventhough I only managed learning from her for a short time only before the conditions started and worsened. Her cooking was excellent I would say. Even the simplest of food. I'm not sure whether it was her talent or skill, or just all the love she poured fondly in the cookings. Even my cousin pernah review " Makngah kalau goreng ikan pun rasa sedap". Indeed it was (T.T)

Her secret charm in the kitchen was "agak-agak cukup". And that is why I found cooking dishes is more troublesome I guess. *sigh*

When I was first started to learn, I always asked questions like this;

"Mak bawang ni nak letak berapa banyak?"
"Mak garam ni nak letak banyak mana?"
"Mak halia banyak ni cukup tak?"
"Mak cili ni nak banyak mana?"

And she always, like almost every time she would replied " agak-agak cukup". As a science student (who think precise is important) and seorang yang agak lurus, I found that was quite disturbing and stressful. Like really bothersome. Arghhh.  Baking is so much easier because you just follow things like 3 biji telur, 1 tsp of vanilla essence, 300g all purpose flour etc etc. How much is 'agak-agak cukup'???

But that is the best part actually. It is about experimenting the taste. The more you try, the better you will be. The more you experiment, the more you are used to the amount and exact taste needed. You aren't likely to succeed the first time you try (not everyone has a greenhand kan?), but practice makes perfect. Yeah! So, that is the secret with 'agak-agak cukup'. It needs practice.... and cook with sincerity and lotsa love!
Brilliant mak is brilliant! :)
I missed your cookings soooooooo much mak!

*off to the kitchen!!!!
Selamat Hari Raya Aidil Adha peeps!
toodles!
